Dan Clark McClenny, Emporia, died at his home on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the age of 87.
  
  
  Dan McClenny was born at Downs, Kansas on October 14, 1923, the son of Albert and Elsie (Clark) McClenny. He married Mary Anna White at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, on June 20, 1944. She survives.
  
  
  Other family members include: daughters, Diane Post, and husband, Gail “Wally” of Odessa, Texas, Patricia McClenny and husband, Rocky Wilson, Dolores, Colorado, Laura L. McClenny, Cortez, Colorado; sons, Dan D. McClenny and wife, Dolores Mazurkewicz, Hesperus, Colorado, and Mike M. McClenny, and wife, Kathrine, Durango, Colorado; four grandchildren, Catherine Post Nutt, Christopher Post, John McClenny, and Megan McClenny; and great-grandchildren, Quentin Nutt, Connor Nutt, and Kiera Post.
  
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents.
  
  
  Dan was a graduate of Emporia High School, and also Emporia State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree (1947) and Masters of Business Administration degree (1954). He also completed courses through the American Management Association and the American Society of Personnel Administration.
  
  
  During World War II, Dan served in the U.S. Navy as a carrier based fighter pilot in the pacific theatre, having enlisted in 1942. He was a member of the Gold Fish Club, and a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  
  
  From September 1947 to May 1950 he taught business subjects, PE and was head coach of all sports at Luray (Kansas) High School.
  
  
  September 1950 to May 1954, he served as a teacher and coach at Holcomb (Kansas) High School, where he taught business courses and coached all sports
  
  
  From September 1954 through June 1957, he served as coach, teacher, and Principal (’56 to May ’57) at Burlington (Kansas) High School. He taught PE, health, and drivers ed, and was head coach in all sports.
  
  
  Mr. McClenny joined the Didde Graphics Company on June 20, 1957 as an Administrative Assistant to the Service Manager. He became Manager of General Administration in 1959, and later was promoted to Director of General Administration and Vice President of Human Resources, which included personnel, office services, and quality control functions. He retired from Didde in 1985.
  
  
  From October of 1988 to May 1989, he was acting President of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, serving during the search for a permanent CEO.
  
  
  March 1989 to May 1990 he served as Firm Administrator of the CPA firm of Agler and Gaeddert, Chartered, with offices in Emporia, Ottawa, Paola, and Lawrence.
  
  
  He taught graduate level courses in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Emporia State University from January 1986 to May 1996.
  
  
  Mr. McClenny served on the Emporia Human Relations Commission, and from 1971 to 1993 he served as a member of the Kansas Employment Security Advisory Council. He was a member and past director of the Emporia Chamber of Commerce, and the Human Relation Committees of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Kansas Right to Work Board. Other memberships include the National Chamber of Commerce and the American Society of Personnel Administration.
  
  
  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, where he was active on the church council. He had served as a member and past President of the former Saint Mary’s Hospital (Emporia).
  
  
  He was a member and past President of Rotary International (Emporia), and a past Director of the United Way of the Flint Hills.
  
  
  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. Mass will be celebrated by Father Richard Warsnak of the church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  
  
  The Rosary will be recited at the church Wednesday evening, April 27, 2011, at 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 PM.
  
  
  Memorials have been established with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or for Athletic Scholarships at Emporia State University. Contributions may be sent In care of the funeral home.
