Spec. Daniel L. Mitchell, 22, of Emporia, Kansas, was found at his home Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Daniel Lee Mitchell, son of Douglas Yearout and Brenda Mitchell, was born January 12, 1989 in Mesa, Arizona. He attended school in Goodland, Kansas until the age of eight, and then went to school in Overland Park, Kansas. From eighth grade on, he attended Emporia schools. In 2008, he joined the Army National Guard. He was a Specialist with the National Guard, stationed in Wichita, Kansas. He had recently returned from a tour of duty in Africa. While he was in Emporia he attended the Emporia Presbyterian Church west campus (Westminster United Presbyterian Church).
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Douglas and Rosanne Yearout of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two brothers, Dante and Daemon Yearout of Lee’s Summit; a sister, Angie Litton of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandmother, Judy Boehme of Emporia; aunt and uncle, Cindi and Martin Lewis of Emporia; uncle, Chris Yearout of Emporia; cousins, Merry Sturm, Jonathan Sturm, Adison Sturm, Jessica Lewis, Dominick Lewis, Leah Lewis, all of Goodland, and Heather Yearout of Emporia.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arthur Yearout; an aunt, Dian Yearout; and an uncle, Tom Jones.
The Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Rev. Lee Hoskins will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery south of Emporia. Graveside Military honors will be by Kansas National Guard Color Guard and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion firing squad.
The family will meet with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of the funeral home.
