Darrell Dean Meyer

Darrell Dean Meyer, rural Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Monday, November 7, 2011. He was 69.



Darrell was born November 16, 1941 at Paullina, Iowa, the son of Elvert and Irene (Meyer) Meyer. He married Ileen Lynelle Strand at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, Kansas, on January 29, 1965. She survives of the home.



Other surviving family members include two sons, Craig Meyer, Sausalito, California; Bret Meyer, Emporia; a daughter, Kimberly Parks, Emporia; two sisters, Carolyn Barnes and Verla Mae Brugh, both of Paullina, Iowa; and ten grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hohenstein, and his parents.



Mr. Meyer was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Quail Unlimited.



Darrell was an attorney, starting in private practice, he served as an Assistant Lyon County Attorney, Associate District Judge for Lyon and Chase Counties for five years, then returned to private practice before becoming an attorney for Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services prior to his retirement.



Cremation is planned.



A memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 14, 2011. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church.



The family requests no flowers. Memorials have been established for the Lyon County 4-H Shooting Sports Program, or the L-CAT service, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
