Olpe

David Andrew “Goodie” Goodell of Olpe, Kansas, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was 66.

David was born on July 23, 1952 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of George Henry “Pete” and Barbara Jean Dyer Goodell.

Surviving family members include: son, Beau Goodell and companion Brandy Smith, along with her daughters, Spring Patterson and Lily Smith of Spring Hill, Kansas; sisters, Debra Lawson and Chris Allen, both of Emporia; and a brother, Daniel Goodell of Ochelata, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

David was a professional truck driver, working for Dolly Madison and Yellow Freight.  He also owned and operated Goodie's Gravel in Olpe.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe.

Goodie was so thankful for the community of Olpe, and how they graciously took him in when he moved there.  He loved all of his family, and had an abundance of friends who he considered to be a part of that family as well.  Having people over for a fish fry, or just a cold beer, was his favorite pastime.  If you happened to drop food on his shop floor, there were no worries about eating it anyway, as Goodie’s shop floor was sterilized.

During his last days, the simple things in life, like sitting in the driveway with Wyatt (his canine friend), consuming all of the sweets in the house, or taking a drive to monitor building progress of Beau and Brandy’s new house made him so happy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30A.M., Thursday, June 20, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe.  Memorial contributions to Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care the funeral home.
