David Michael Evans

David Micheal Evans, 68, died Tuesday October 30, 2012 at Stormont Vail Healthcare Topeka, Kansas after a short illness.

David was the oldest of four sons born to Wilbur Ernest and Annie Ruth (Cravy) Evans. He was born July 15, 1944 in San Saba, Texas. He lived in Louisiana, Texas, California and Kansas.

David graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, and attended Emporia State University. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Seabee from 1963 to 1969, including active duty with MCB 11 in Okinawa and Vietnam.

He married Nancy Jane Sherden on June 30, 1967 in Topeka. They made their home in Emporia, where they raised their family. He worked at Haynes Hardware, Sauder Industries, Thermal Ceramics, and BPE, Inc., before retiring from Emporia State University in 2006.

David was a member of the Methodist faith; Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 AF & AM; Miriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star, where he had served as Worthy Patron; Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia; and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife and granddaughter.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy; two sons, Steven Lee Evans and his friend Beth Richards of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Stuart Sherden Evans of Lawrence, Kansas; granddaughter, Kirsten Leigh Evans of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandsons, Pat Rudd of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Christopher Rudd of Ottawa, Kansas; brothers, Paul and wife Ethel Evans of Russellville, Arkansas, Louis Evans of Dover Arkansas, and Mark and wife Diana Evans of Dover, Arkansas; several aunts, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. A visitation will follow the service. Pastor Susan Daniel-Brey of Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia will be officiating. Masonic Services will be by Emporia Masonic Lodge #12. Inurnment will be in McFadden Cemetery in Dover, Arkansas at a later date.
