David G. Lumley

David G. Lumley, Olpe, Kansas, died at his home on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the age of 61.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. The Mass will be celebrated by Father John Cordes of the church, and a member of the family, Father Meinrad Miller. Cremation will follow.


The Rosary will be recited at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Thursday evening, December 11, 2014 at 7:00 P.M., after which the family will receive friends.

David was born at Salina, Kansas, August 4, 1953, the son of Richard S. and Lucille (Brinkman) Lumley. He married Paula Dolechek in Hoisington, Kansas on August 4, 1979. Paula survives of the home.


Other surviving members of the family include his daughter, Maggie (Ron) Ziglar, Olpe; son, Mike Lumley, Emporia; brothers, Dan Lumley, Kansas City, Missouri, and Doug Lumley, Lenexa, Kansas; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Haiden Ziglar, Olpe; and his mother-in-law, Teresa Dolechek, Hoisington.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, Joe and Anna Brinkman, and Ted and Nancy Lumley.


David spent his early years in Solomon, Kansas, attending grade school there. He graduated from Emporia High School, and later Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. David was employed by Schendel Pest Control, Santa Fe Railway, and Westar Energy, and had been retired three years.


David was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, and was a First Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Through college, he had been a member of the Plainsmen Drum & Bugle Corps, which later became the Tri-V.E.L. Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps in Emporia.


His hobbies included model railroading, and he was an avid Chiefs fan. He enjoyed his family, especially the grandchildren, every breed of dog, cooking spicy foods, and the community of Olpe, Kansas.


The family requests no flowers, with memorial contributions instead to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund, or the Sertoma Soden’s Grove Miniature Train, sent in care of the funeral home.
