David Harold Reed, Jr. of rural Emporia, Kansas, passed away at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the age of 54.
David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 17, 1967, the son of David (Sr.) and June (Smith) Reed. He married Darla Keightley at Burlington, Kansas on July 31, 2009. She survives. He is also survived by his daughter; Hayley Jennings, Reading, Kansas, and step-daughters; Tiffany Long, Warsaw, Missouri, Rachael Hargus, Wheatland, Missouri, and Kathryn Rosa, Emporia, Kansas, his mother; June Henderson, Independence, Missouri, father; David Reed, Sr., Wichita, Kansas, brother; Andrew Reed, Wichita, Kansas, sisters; Michelle Reed –Missouri, & Tammy Reed- Missouri, grandchildren; Julie, Kelby, & Gauge Long, and Maci & Creed Hargus.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, and had proudly served as Chase County Sheriff. Currently he was the Regional Manager for Fleet Shops for Pilot/Flying J.
Mud racing was one of his passions. Together, he and his wife, Darla, created D&D Racing. What time they didn’t spend on the farm was spent on constructing the build of The Jeep.
Besides racing, David & Darla spent their time hunting, fishing, and farming. His favorite spot was Truman Lake to snag spoonbill.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Kansas on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Rev. Michael Stubbs, Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church, Emporia.
A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warriors Project, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
