Dean U. Henoch, 93, Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.

Dean Ulrich Henoch was born March 13, 1924 at Enterprise, Kansas, the son of Frank and Ruth Henoch. Dean married Joan J. Johnson on July 29, 1945 in Junction City, Kansas. Joan died October 12, 2014.

Surviving member of the family include two sons, Blake Henoch, and his wife, Gina of Emporia, and Mark Henoch of Topeka, Kansas; a Daughter, Jane Grauer, and her husband, Tim, Marysville, Kansas; a brother, Richard Henoch, Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Henoch, who passed away in 2015, as well as tow brothers and three sisters.

Dean served in the United States Navy during World War II on the Philippine Islands. After the close of the war, he served as a radar operator on blimps stationed above Japan and was a member of the Navy traveling baseball team, playing shortstop. Dean had received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the American Area Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol for 21 years, retiring in 1972; he had been stationed in Topeka, Manhattan, Clay Center, and Marysville. During his service with the Highway Patrol, he received several commendations and was known for his fair treatment of everyone he had contact with. He later worked as an adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance for 16 years. Following his Navy service he also served with the Kansas National Guard. Dean was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and the Emporia Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Sharon Thomas, Marquette, Kansas. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Military graveside honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
