Delano “Nick” Abraham Nixon of rural Neosho Rapids died on May 17, 2018 at his home. He was 85
Nick was born on March 3, 1933 in Fredericksburg, Texas area the son of Rubin and Seme Lange Nixon. He married Mary Jane Granada on August 17, 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma. She died April 19, 1991 in Emporia. He later married Linda Sue Krueger on February 14, 1992 in Emporia, Kansas. She died on January 10, 2018 in Neosho Rapids.
Surviving family members include: daughters, Tammy (Greg) Johnson of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Jennifer Nixon of Houston, Texas; step-son, Jeffrey Schmidt of Hartford; grandchildren, Marc Allen (Carissa) Nixon, Clinton James (Ashley) Drake; step-grandchildren, Mike Herrick, Chelsie Schmidt, Morgan Schmidt, Braden Korgol, and Justin Korgol; great-grandchildren Anzley Lynn Nixon, Allison and Michelle Drake.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three brothers and one sister.
Nick proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962 where he was a driver for Generals. He was a marksman and sharpshooter. After serving in the military, he worked for Dick Handy Chevrolet as a mechanic and Coka-Cola as a service technician in Emporia. Nick was an avid outdoorsman.
Cremation has taken place with a private graveside service that was held Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Memorial contributions to “What’s In Outdoors” with Phil Taunton in care of the funeral home.
