Dema G. Luginsland, 82, fell asleep in death, June 5, 2026 in Emporia Kansas. Born on Dec 2,1943 in Great Bend Kansas, Dema was the daughter of Robert E. and Dorothy G. (Brown) McChristy, of Lewis Kansas.
She was a 1961 graduate of Lewis High School. She attended Fort Hayes State University for about three years, working as a lab technician, where she met David Countryman of Kinsley Kansas. They married on December 26th of 1964 and moved to Emporia where she continued college at Emporia State University. They then moved to Americus Kansas to raise the family. Over the years, she also took jobs as nurses aid, housecleaning, census taking, and school crossing guard.
Dema will be missed and remembered by her two daughters, Corrina Countryman, and Audrey Countryman (Briar), (Rusty Briar), and one son, Glenn Countryman, (Shirley Countryman) also grandsons Cody Briar (Ashleigh Briar), Brad Countryman, Joseph Coronel (step-grandson), her sister, Cheryl (Arvin) Peterson, of Dickson Tennessee, and one brother, Neal (SanDee) McChristy, Pittsburg, Kansas; four nephews, one niece, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Dema was preceded in death by her parents, and an older brother Dayle McChristy.
Dema dedicated her life as a faithful, baptized, worshipper with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Feb 22, 1969, learning how Jehovah loves mankind and has a purpose for restoring earth to paradise where sickness, pain, sorrow, and even death will be no more (Rev 21:3,4). She held these Bible truths to her heart, and that love motivated her to write letters to others for her ministry, which she continued to do until the very last week of her life. She also loved singing “Kingdom melodies” her favorite being “The Eyes of Faith”.
Dema married again to Loris L. Luginsland, embracing his family on May 30th of 1997 of Americus Kansas, who had in a previous marriage, one daughter Nennette Dee (Dee Dee) Luginsland Grantham, (Kenneth Grantham), and son Nathan Cody Luginsland of Texarkana,Texas. After the passing of Loris Luginsland in October of 2018, Dema moved back to Emporia.
Dema loved her family and friends dearly, and family get-togethers meant a lot of good food, singing,homemade ice-cream and live music played by family. She will be remembered for her love of the outdoors, creation, love of flowers (roses and irises), birds (Jenny wrens) , love and adoration of children and animals (fur-babies), and her strong faith and ministry to all who would listen.
A private memorial dinner is planned at a future date.
