Denise Lyn Wood

Denise Lyn Wood, 60, Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Denise Lyn DeZetter was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 19, 1964, the daughter of Tom and Jackie (Rosen) DeZetter.  She married James Wood, Jr. September 23, 1990, at Saint Vianney Catholic Church, North Lake, Illinois. He survives of the home. Other surviving family members include: son; James Wood III, Emporia, Kansas, daughter; Haylie Wood, Emporia, Kansas, father; Tom DeZetter, Michigan City, Indiana, brother; Jeff DeZetter, McHenry, Illinois, Dennis Buchanan, North Carolina, sisters; Debbie Newberry, Villa Park, Illinois, Kelly Dutmers, Chicago, Illinois, and Laura Lungren, Michigan City, Indiana.  Her mother died earlier.

When Denise asked James to her senior prom in 1982, little did she know it would start a relationship that would last 42 years. Denise enjoyed being a mom and wife. She was active in her kids activities. She volunteered at many community events, and she enjoyed helping others. She loved gardening and enjoyed her plants, she especially enjoyed the deer that would run through the yard, always bringing a smile to her face.

Mrs. Wood worked as a cook at Schaumburg High School, Schaumburg, Illinois.

Cremation is planned.  The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas on Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00.
