Dr. Dennis Eugene Schmitt, 73 of Emporia, Kansas died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home.
Dennis was born September 13, 1943 in rural Fairview, Kansas the son of John Merrill and Viola Magdeline (Meyer) Schmitt. He was a professor in the business school at Emporia State University for 42 years until his retirement 6 years ago. Dennis was an avid sports fan and attended many ESU sporting events. He enjoyed reading, watching old westerns, watching the Cardinals, Royals, Jayhawks, Wildcats, and Shockers.
Dennis married Kathleen Dailey on May 31, 1969 in Haven, Kansas. They later divorced. He is survived by a son Kevin Schmitt and wife Angela of Blue Springs, Missouri and grandchildren Hannah Schmitt, Addison Schmitt and Logan Shinkle. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Brenda Ulrich will be officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Powhattan Cemetery in Powhattan, Kansas.
