Diane Charlene Valentine, 75, of Emporia died on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Diane was born on May 21, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Charles Grant and Helen Felicia Nichols. She married Larry Edward Valentine on July 3, 1965 in Mission, Kansas. He died on August 5, 2004 in Emporia, Kansas.
Surviving family members include: sons, Mark Frederick Valentine (Cyndi) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Timothy Charles Valentine of Mission, Kansas; daughter, Ann Elizabeth Valentine of Springfield, Missouri; sisters; Barbara Marie Nichols Rubin of Prairie Village, Kansas, and Joy Nichols Bohlin of Lynnfield, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Nicholas Michael Casertano, Hannah Elizabeth Casertano, Christian Luke Casertano, Leila Marie Valentine, William Lawrence Valentine, Charlotte Grace Valentine, and Elise Nichole Valentine; seven nieces and four nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Diane earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Master’s degree in Foreign Language. She was fluent in French and Spanish. Both degrees were earned at ESU. She was a Foreign language teacher. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Emporia. Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Teachers Association, a Junior Member of Daughter's of the King, AAUW book club and volunteered at Emporia State University. Diane loved to travel and visited France, Spain, England, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Holland and Mexico.
Cremation is planned with the Eucharist at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Emporia with a reception following. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the church. Private burial will take place at Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in Wisconsin at a later date. Memorial contributions to Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary can be sent in care of the funeral home.
