Carolyn Diane Rusk Wade, 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. She was surrounded by her loving and caring family. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Kathryn and Anna Rusk,) and brother (John Robert Rusk).
Diane was born on April 27, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of John Cicero and Bonnie Wheat Rusk. She was a graduate of East Texas State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance. She married Pat Wade on August 29, 1968, in Commerce, Texas. Three days after their marriage ceremony, Diane and Pat moved to Emporia, Kansas, where they established their permanent home. Surviving family members include her husband, Pat Wade of the home; sons, Keith Wade of Conroe, Texas, and Kelly (Dalia) Wade of Emporia, Kansas; grandchildren Kadie and Kayle Wade.
Diane was many things including being a loving parent, a grandparent, and a friend to all. Among her many pursuits were family genealogy, collecting antique children's glass toy dishes including whimsical miniature tea sets, and animated Christmas toys. She was also an enthusiastic football fan. Every Saturday and Sunday you could find Diane glued to the television watching her favorite teams. She also briefly served the community as the Director at Lyon County Department on Aging. She brought special warmth to all who knew her. To know Diane was to love her.
Cremation is planned with a Private Graveside Service, Friday, July 31, 2026, at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. The Celebration of Life will follow from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Regal Plumb. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Francis Ice Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Emporia and can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P. O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
