Dianne Heins

Dianne Heins, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the age of 70.

The daughter of Loren D. and Novella E. I. (Lodle) Merry, Dianne was born in Emporia on September 27, 1944. She married Kenneth C. Heins, and they later divorced.

Surviving members of the family include: her son, Randy S. Heins, his wife, Sandra, and their children, Angela Richard (Travis), Ashley Salter (Joel), Chelsea Barry, and Jacob Schumann; a daughter, Michelle “Shelly” Rhodes, her husband, Bill, and their children, Nathan, Hayden, and Nolan Rhodes; and a daughter, Lorie A. Quaney, her husband, Paul, and their children Kelsie and Trever.

Also surviving are her mother, Novella Merry of Emporia; three brothers, Darrell (Leila), Olpe, Kansas, Gene (Barb) Merry, Burlington, Kansas, and Rodger (Diane) Merry, Dodge City, Kansas; a sister, Janice (Roger) Barrons, Manhattan, Kansas; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Loren, and brothers, Ronald and Robert Merry.

Dianne was a graduate of Olpe (Kansas) High School, and later graduated from Emporia State University with her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education. She taught for 35 years, first in the Blue Valley District in Stilwell, Kansas, then later at Olpe High School, Olpe, Kansas.

She attended the First Christian Church of Emporia, and was an active volunteer in the community until recent months.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at First Christian Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Rev. Bob Colerick of the church. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, January 2, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
