Don Monroe, 71, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
Don was born in Emporia, Kansas on September 21, 1945, the son of Preston and Thena (Huff) Monroe (Christian). He married Angela Rangel in Emporia on January 29, 1965. She survives.
Besides his wife, Angela, Don is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Spalding, Topeka, Kansas and Cathy Monroe, Kansas City, Missouri; his brother, Charles Monroe, Ypsilanti, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Tara, Austi, Whitney, Ashley, Charly, Leo, and Tristan; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Preston, and a great-grandson, Isaac.
Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and had worked for the City of Emporia Water Treatment Plant and later at Village School, Emporia. He retired 17 years ago.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The mass will be celebrated by Father Brandon Farrar of the church. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Rosary will be recited at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. The family and friends will visit after the Rosary.
