Donald Charles Chesmore, 53, of Reading, Kansas, died on May 21, 2011 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas, resulting from tornadic activity in Reading, Kansas that evening.
  
  
  
  Donald was born on July 12, 1957 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Osia Tryon and Ruth Evelyn (Tedford) Chesmore. He married Brenda Fouts on July 1, 1978 in Woodbine, Iowa. They later divorced. Don later married Lavonda Hughs on December 18, 1993 at the Reading United Methodist Church in Reading.
  
  
  
  She survives. Other survivors include: son, Charlie Chesmore of Topeka, Kansas; daughter, Nicole Lutz of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Josh and Zoe Klass of Topeka, Kansas, Cheyenne, Mckayla, and William Lutz of Topeka, Kansas, and Keely, and Layton Chesmore also of Topeka; brother, Robert Chesmore of Augusta, Montana; sisters: Kathryn Chambers of Solider, Iowa, Debora Mareska of Emporia, Kansas, and Janet Drake of Griswold, Iowa.
  
  
  
  He is preceded in death by his parents.
  
  
  
  Donald was a hunter. He handled maintenance at the Senior Center in Osage City, Kansas. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wild Turkey Federation, National Rifle Association, and the North American Hunt Club. Don also served in the United States Army, and the United States National Guard.
  
  
  
  The graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 27, 2011, at Alpine Cemetery near Turkey Point at Melvern Lake. The visitation will be Thursday evening, May 26, 2011, from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
