Donald Edward Fanestil was born in Hoisington, KS on November 4, 1926 to Edna Olive and Edward Emmanuel Fanestil. Mr. Fanestil, 83, died of natural causes on September 21, 2010, in Chandler, AZ. Throughout his life, Don lived in Nebraska, Kansas, and Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Don graduated from Emporia High School in 1943, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Kansas University in 1948. His college education was interrupted by service in the United States Army during the year of 1946. Don Fanestil married Jeane Margaret Barlow of Kansas City, KS on July 18, 1948. They remained married for the next 62 years. In 1948, he became a supervisor at Fanestil Packing Company. He was then a cost accountant for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City between 1956 and 1964. In 1964, Don returned to Emporia to assume the position of manager at Fanestil Packing Company. He later became a partner, owner, and president of Fanestil Packing Company before retiring in 1984, but continued to serve as a consultant until 1985. Don retired to Sun Lakes, AZ in 1987, where his wife continues to reside.
As an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as an usher and a deacon. Don was also a member of the Emporia Kiwanis Club.
Don is survived by his wife, Jeane Fanestil; two children, William Fanestil, and Carol McKinney-Jarman; and grandchildren, Benjamin Fanestil, Jacob Fanestil, and Jenna Holliday.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at The Presbyterian Church of Emporia, 802 Commercial Street, Emporia, KS.
