Donald Edward Mader, 86 of Emporia, Kansas died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Donald was born January 31, 1932 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Edward and Mildred (Eakes) Mader. Upon graduation from St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, He began his career with the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad as a secretary in the general offices in Topeka. Eventually his duties with the railroad would include stops in Chillicothe, IL, Topeka, KS, Newton, KS, Emporia, KS, Temple, TX, San Bernadino, CA, and Amarillo, TX. While in Emporia he was Trainmaster and Superintendent of the Eastern Division, while in Temple he was superintendent, and his final duty was that of Assistant General Manager in Topeka. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, President of the Residents Council at Emporia Presbyterian Manor and a former board member for the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX.
On February 3, 1951 Donald married Irene Stadler at Sacred Heart Parish in Topeka. She died April 25, 2018 in Emporia. Survivors include daughters Barbara Haag and husband Harry of Hartford, Kansas, Marilyn Evans of Dickinson, Texas, Kathy Dupree of Troy Texas, Laurie Lange and husband Alan of Belton, Texas, son Donald R. Mader and wife Tracey of Weatherford, Texas, grandchildren Carrie Haag-Kueser and husband Craig, Cory Haag and wife Amber, Jason Maronge and wife Nikki, Justin Maronge and wife Stephanie, Chad Dupree and wife Meredith, Drew Dupree and wife Sarah, Jennifer (Dupree) Barfoot and husband Jon, Andrew Lange and wife Kristina, Kendall (Lange) McKinzey and husband Corey, Alec Mader and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Julie Dupree, and a sister Geraldine Root.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Father Brandon Farrar of the church will be the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Father Tim Haberkorn of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Parish in Topeka will be officiating. The Rosary will be recited 5:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
