Funeral services for Donald William Mohr, 94, will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, KS on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Services will be conducted by Pastor Jeannie Jensen, First United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at a later date in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Mr. Mohr passed away Saturday at his home in Lawrence, Kansas.
Donald William Mohr was born in Council Grove, Kansas on August 3, 1922, the son of Paul and Alma (Meyers) Mohr. He married Rachel Hughes at Emporia, Kansas on February 14, 1942. She passed away in Emporia on March 2, 2005.
Surviving family members include his daughter Beth Ann Markley, Lenexa, Kansas, son, Rodney Mohr, and his wife, Susie, of Lawrence, Kansas, granddaughters Melinda Markley, Elizabeth Haire and husband Nolan, Katherine Barnard and husband Shane, Veronica Bahret and husband Blair, Christina Kring and husband Tyler, great-grandchildren Madison Barnard and Cale Haire.
His wife, parents, and a brother, Gene, died earlier.
Mr. Mohr graduated from Dunlap High School. He worked at Beech Aircraft, hauled cattle, was a Continental Bulk Agent and was a driver for Interstate Brand/Dolly Madison Bakery for several years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church, the Americus Masonic Lodge, and the Shrine. He had many interests most of which involved the outdoors with hunting, fishing and golfing. A big achievement was making 2 hole-in-ones in one year.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.
A memorial has been established with the American Legion and the Emporia Municipal Golf Course, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
