Donald Gene Rosenboom

Donald Gene Rosenboom, 83, of Emporia, Kansas, died on October 29, 2011 at Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.

Don was born on August 3, 1928 in Okabena, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Reka Doyen Rosenboom. He married Tennice Toleff in 1946 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, they later divorced. He later married Margaret “Peggy” Ingles on September 29, 1964 in Miami, Oklahoma. She died on November 13, 2010 in Emporia, Kansas.

He is survived by: sons, Donald of Modesto, California, and David of Stockton, California; daughter, Kathleen McCann of Ankeny, Iowa, and a step-daughter Carol Burlile of Prairie Village, Kansas; ten grandchildren, three of which Don and Peggy helped raise, Lori Winn of Carrollton, Texas, Kristine Funston of Estherville, Iowa, and Andrew Holland of Derby, Kansas; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rosemarie Doyen of Pomeroy, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Peggy; brothers, Jack Rosenboom, Elmer Rosenboom, Vernon “Bud” Rosenboom, and an infant brother; sisters, Dorothy Miller, and Edna Block; a step-daughter Lenora “Janie” Holland; and a great-grandson Zachary Funston.

Don was a local Emporia businessman for years. He owned The Lariat, La Fontaine, Crossroads Restaurant in Osage City, and Rosenboom Retail Liquor. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Don was a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, the Eagles, and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Emporia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 4, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor John Davis of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia, with military honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
