Donald A. Smith, 76, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.
Donald Arthur Smith was born at Emporia, on June 11, 1936, the son of Charles Arthur and Byra Jo (Freeman) Smith. He married Mary Margaret Garland in Emporia on March 6, 1959. She passed away January 4, 2011.
Surviving family members include: sons, Stephen (Danielle) Smith, Iola, Kansas, Terry (Maureen) Smith, Emporia; daughters, Jackie Smith, Emporia, Leschia (Doug) Sidener, Meriden, Kansas, Dana (Jeff)Schiesser, Benton, Kansas, and Lori (Jeff) McDonalds, Prattville, Alabama; brother,William Cossairt, Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Brandy Romero, Jeffrey Schiesser, Tyler Schiesser, Leah Sidener, Michelle Holder, Drew Smith, Erin Schiesser, Toby Smith, Courtney Smith, Megan Smith, Tiffany Romero, Jake Smith, Colleen Smith, Kylan Sidener, and Macy Smith; and great-granddaughter, Carsyn Wellman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; infant son, Mark; daughter, Vicki; granddaughter, Hailey Oroke; and a sister, Marjorie Hovious.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, Emporia, and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Smith worked for a number of years for IBP, Inc., and had also been a self-employed carpenter. He attended Roosevelt High School, and the College of Emporia, Kansas.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.
