Donald Lewis Zinn

Donald Lewis Zinn, 67, of rural Emporia, Kansas, died on January 5, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Don was born on March 3, 1944 in Herington, Kansas, the son of Scottie Francis and Patricia Jane Brosseau Zinn. He married Jeanie Marie Merker, they later divorced. On May 21, 1992 he married Mary E. Wilson Duncan in Emporia. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: son, Scott E. Zinn of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Kristine N. Wehner of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Wells of Longmont, Colorado; Joan Grother of Americus, Kansas; and Elaine Prohaska of Berryton, Kansas; brother, Joe Zinn of Lost Springs, Kansas; sisters, Becky Lehnherr of Emporia, Jackie Schlesener of Nixa, Missouri, and Barbara Cook of Langdon, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


Don owned and operated Zinn’s Beauty Inn in Kansas City, Missouri for many years before retiring. He later came to Emporia and worked for Lyon County as a heavy equipment operator, before retiring again several years ago.

Don attended Didde Catholic Campus Center in Emporia. He was a member of the Purple Duck Card Club in Emporia, and he raised and sold produce from his large garden at the Emporia Farmers Market.

Don was raised in Lost Springs, Kansas where he attended Center High School, and was an All American and All State in Football and Basketball. He was a scuba diver, and also loved to hunt, fish, camp, and do pretty much anything that was outdoors. He was a sharp shooter, and loved to build birdhouses.

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Everything will be at Didde Catholic Campus Center in Emporia. Mass will be conducted by Father Ray May of the Church. Cremation will take place following the Mass.
