Donna L. Bender, 79, of Emporia died on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Holiday Resort Care Center.
Donna was born on February 27, 1938 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of George and Pearl Wenderott Barrett. She married Cliff Bender on May 3, 1968 in Emporia. He survives.
Surviving family members include: husband, Cliff Bender of Emporia; sons, Scott Bender (Jill Koester) of Wichita, Kansas, Steve Bender (Geralyn Hoey) of Austin, Texas; daughter, Brenda Martin (Steve) of Derby, Kansas; Grandchildren, Ashley Martin, Matthew Martin, Savannah Bender, Patrick Bender, Noah Bender, and William Bender; great-grandchildren, Londyn Cooks, and Mila Cooks.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Donna was an Insurance Agent in Emporia for 48 years before retiring 15 years ago. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Group sponsor, active in the Ladies’ Circle Bible Study Group, Council member including past president, and various committees. She was one of the founding members and served for many years before her illness with the Lyon County Crime Stoppers. One of the founding members and continued as a member until her retirement with the Kansas Society of Insurance Women (KSIW).
Cremation is planned with a Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Emporia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
