Dorothy May Haynes, 92, formerly of Emporia, passed away October 11, 2014, in McKinney, Texas. She was born February 27, 1922, in Alma, Kansas.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Helen Tenbrink of Rowlett, Texas; her four children, John Haynes of Shawnee, Kansas, Mark Haynes of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janet Miller of Fairview, Texas, and Karen Bowers of LeCompton, Kansas, eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and August Grunewald; her husband, Robert Haynes; her sister, LaVerne Exley; and her brother, Edward Grunewald.
Prior to moving to Texas, Dorothy had lived in Emporia since 1951 and was a long-time member of Messiah Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church in Emporia. She had lived in McKinney for the past several years.
Dorothy enjoyed being with her family, going to church and singing in the choir, visiting with friends, knitting, and baking gooseberry pies.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 17, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1348 Trailridge Road, Emporia. The family will receive friends during the hour before the service on Friday. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia.
