Dorothy E. Ludwig, 80, died Monday, July 18, 2011 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Dorothy Pinkston was born in Cedar Point, Kansas on April 29, 1921, the daughter of Ephraim and Frances (Hanselman) Pinkston. She married Elmer C. Ludwig at Elmdale, Kansas on August 5, 1941. He died December 24, 2000 in Emporia.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Mark A. Ludwig, Emporia, Kansas,and David E. Ludwig and his friend, Paul Stegner, Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Sharon Myers and her husband, Gerald, Americus, Kansas, and Sandra Dreasher and her husband, Duane, Emporia, Kansas; brother, William Pinkston, Wichita, Kansas; sister, Virginia Wyatt, Tempe, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one stillborn son, Stephen John; and brothers, David and Fred.
Mrs. Ludwig was a graduate of Cedar Point High School in 1939, and attended Kansas State Teachers College one year. She obtained her teaching certificate and taught one year, prior to her marriage, at the Grandview School in Chase County. She was a homemaker, and also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics, and worked at Graves Drug Store in Emporia.
She and her husband were residents of Chase County until moving to Emporia on Labor Day Weekend, 1969. She was a member of the First Friends Church (Emporia), and the Missionary Women’s Society of the church. She and her husband, Elmer, had been active in the Emporia Senior Center, where she had received the Volunteer of the Year Award. She was also a champion quilter.
Funeral services will be at First Friends Church on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. The service will be conducted by Rev. Charity Sandstrom of the church, and Rev. Galen l. Hinshaw, Rose Hill, Kansas. A graveside service will be held at Homestead Cemetery, south of Clements, Kansas at 2:00 P.M.
The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Thursday evening, July 21, 2011 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
