Dorothy Lee Marcellus Peak, 89, passed away October 15, 2012 in Emporia, Kansas.
Dorothy was born on February 22, 1923 in Emporia, to Charles Melvin and Nancy Mae Bell Smith Marcellus. She attended Emporia schools and graduated from Emporia Senior High School in 1941. She married Homer Peak on December 24, 1941 in Emporia. He passed away on November 23, 1985.
After graduation, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Newman Hospital, and then was a Paraprofessional in the Hetlinger Pre-School program for nine years, a member of Hetlinger Developmental Center, served on the Hetlinger Board of Directors, was a board member of the Mothers and Friends Club of Hetlinger, served on the Cancer Board, member of Ruggles Extension for 28 years, member of the 726 M.B. Battalion in which her husband served during World War II, member of the Cottonwood Extension Unit, member and Treasurer of Church Women United of Emporia, member of Lyon County Farm Bureau, and A.A.R.P. She was a member and elder of First Friends Church, Friends Women’s Missionary Society, and Crusaders Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her son, Howard Arthur Peak of Emporia; grandson, Anthony Martin Peak of Falcon, Missouri; and two sisters, Joan Wilma Langley of Wichita, Kansas, and Rose Marie Bechthold of Andover, Kansas, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son, Homer L. Peak, and two brothers, Leonard Junior Marcellus, and Donald Marcellus.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 19, 2012 at First Friends Church in Emporia. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. A visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening, October 18, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to First Friends Church, Hetlinger Developmental Center, or Emporia Express Special Olympics, may be sent in care of Robert-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
