Dowane L. Bartel, 79, of rural Madison, Kansas, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Dowane was born on December 8, 1934 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Frank and Rose Weichold Bartel. He married Karen Ann Holliday on January 19, 1958 in Emporia. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2012 in Emporia.
He is survived by his children, Stephen (Rhonda) Bartel of Mulvane, Kansas, Chris (Mindy) Bartel of Madison, Natalie (Jason) Spellman of Emporia, and Nicole Bartel of Bentonville, Arkansas; brothers, Ron Bartel of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Dennis Bartel of Lebanon, Missouri; one sister, Wealtha “Butch” Davis of Sedgwick, Kansas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Matlock; and a great-grandson, Joshua Gracen Rowland.
Dowane was a lifelong farmer in Madison, Kansas. He was also a car inspector for Santa Fe Railroad. He later drove a school bus for Southern Lyon County, and retired in 1996 from Modine Manufacturing.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Olpe United Methodist Church in Olpe. Interment will follow at Maydale Cemetery south of Olpe. The Visitation will be Friday evening, June 27, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:00 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
