The Reverend Dr. William J. Imhoff, 88, of Emporia died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at his home.
William Jason Imhoff, son of William Felix and Floria Elizabeth Howard Imhoff, was born June 24, 1926 at Gladstone, Oregon. After graduation from Oregon City High School he was drafted into the Army of the United States in September of 1944. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for serving with 32nd Infantry Division on Luzon P.I. in WWII.
Upon discharge from the Army, he worked in the U.S. Postal Service for a brief period. In 1947 he attended Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon. In 1951 he completed the Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. He completed his educational work at Phillips Theological Seminary, receiving a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1956 and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1974. He served one year as an adjunct professor in Homiletics at Phillips Graduate Seminary, Enid, Oklahoma.
Dr. Imhoff entered the ministry and was ordained at Oregon City, Oregon, June 24, 1951. He served Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) as a student Pastor at Florence, Oregon; Atlanta, Kansas; and Medford, Oklahoma. As full Pastor, he served churches at Enid, Kingfisher, Okmulgee and Tulsa, all in Oklahoma. His last pastorate was at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Emporia, Kansas.
Upon retirement, he served as an interim Minister at First Christian Church in Helena, Montana and at Salina, Kansas. He has been a Pulpit Supply Minister for numerous communities, particularly at First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas and the Sardis Congregational Church near Emporia. Bill served in several Regional and National Committees of his denomination.
He is a former President of the Emporia Ministerial Fellowship, Past Master of the Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, and had served on the Emporia Presbyterian Manor Board, the Citizens Review Board, and also the Golf Advisory Board for the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
Bill was married to Charlene Brannon on May 31, 1956. They were divorced. On December 24, 1984 he married Anita Dian Stephens Miller, who survives him. He is also survived by: daughters, Velma Elizabeth Imhoff and husband Sean Gaines of Groton, MA, Katharine Ann Imhoff and husband Nick Francis of Acton, MA, and Margaret (Maggie) Alice Imhoff of Pittsboro, NC; and three grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sondra Jane Imhoff, two sisters, and two brothers.
Cremation has taken place, with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at First Christian Church, Emporia, with the visitation starting at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, south of Emporia.
