Duane A. Desmarteau, 65, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.
  
  
  Duane was born on August 29, 1948 in Stockton, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Velois (Bellerive) Desmarteau. He married Linda Yockey on August 21, 1971, in Wichita, they later divorced, and she passed away earlier. He married Roxanne Logan in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 11, 1994; she survives.
  
  
  Also surviving Duane are: two sons, Doug (Nicole) Desmarteau, Iola, Kansas, and Dean (Amanda) Desmarteau, Olathe, Kansas; stepdaughter, Wendy (Eddie) Wagoner, Gilbert, Arizona; stepsons, Daniel (Trisha) Logan, Wichita, Kansas, and Cyrus (Hilary) Logan, Prairie Village, Kansas; brother, Duryea (Rita) Desmarteau, Westminster, Colorado; sister, Denise (Terry) Moore, Tecumseh, Kansas; stepbrothers, Steve (Jan) Meissen, Atlanta, Georgia, and Greg (Jan) Meissen, Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Anna, Danielle, Harper, Haidyn, and Landon Desmarteau, Courtney, Blake, Ashlyn, and Quinn Logan, and Derek and Mary Kate Wagoner.
  
  
  Mr. Desmarteau came to Emporia in 1977, working for Beneficial Finance; then later worked at Farm and Home Insurance and the Insurance Planning Center in Emporia. He also served as the soccer coach of Emporia High School from 1988 to 2000. During his coaching career at EHS, he guided the Spartan soccer team to numerous League and Regional championships, including the Class 6A State finals in both 1992 and 1993.
  
  
  He was instrumental in the creation of the Two Rivers Youth Soccer Association in Emporia, serving as Executive Director and Tournament Director. On January 23, 2010, Duane was inducted into the Kansas Soccer Hall of Fame. He served as Vice President and President of the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association and was a regional board member. He was also a staff coach for the Olympic Development Program for the State of Kansas. Duane was a foster care provider for the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Association and the Rockin’ Paw Rescue and Adoption Organization.
  
  
  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, Emporia. The family will receive friends at the church during the hour before the service. The service will be conducted by Pastor Al Areheart of the church. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
  
  
  The family will also receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Wednesday evening, July 30, 2014 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
  
  
  Memorials have been established with the Emporia Alzheimer’s Support Group, or Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
