Dudley R. Young, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Dudley R. Young, the son of Silver Richard and Lola May Stowe Young, was born on December 26, 1923 in Ottawa, Kansas. He married Elosia M. Dwyer on November 26, 1956 in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2003.
Dudley is survived by: a stepson, Duane Hayes; a step-grandson, Kenneth Hayes; two step-grandchildren, Abigail and Luke Hayes, all of Baldwin City, Kansas; a half-sister, Lesta Jean Rea of Mojave, California; nine cousins, Alberta (Donald) Lank of Wichita, Kansas, Donald (Ruthanna) Stowe of Portland, Oregon, Jean Roberts of Columbia, Missouri, Gary R. Stowe of Dodge City, Kansas, Robert F. Stowe of Olathe, Kansas, Gordon L. Stowe of Wichita, Kansas, Rhonda J. Padget of Topeka, Kansas, Dirk A. Lank of Wichita, and Carla J. Mitchell of Wichita.
Dudley was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Elosia “Sam” Young; his mother, Lola Stockey; and his favorite aunt and uncle, Herman and Bernice Stowe.
Dudley worked for Panhandle Eastern Co. for 30 years and was also an investment broker for many years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5 of the American Legion; Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M.; the Topeka Consistory of the Scottish Rite; the Arab Shrine Temple; the Shrine “Mini T’s” unit; the Ottawa Elks Club Lodge 803; and the Emporia Fraternal Order of Eagles #2587.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 7, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor James Akers will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, with Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post #5 of the American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorial contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children may be sent in care of the funeral home.
