Edward B. Conrade

Edward B. Conrade, Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Emporia, Kansas.  He was 92.

Edward was born April 18, 1926 on a farm six miles west of Olpe the son of Jacob and Bertha Meir Conrade.  He married Elizabeth Trear on May 30, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. After marriage they moved to a farm west of Olpe where they resided until 1991, at which time they moved to Emporia.  She died on April 30, 2015 in Fredonia, Kansas.

Survivors include: daughter, Mary Jo (Wally) Schankie of Madison; son, Gary (Valerie) Conrade, Olpe; Grandson  Joshua (Lindsay) Whitmore and three great-grandchildren, Trenna, Cade, and Hadley.  Edward considered his children and especially his grandchild and great grandchildren his greatest accomplishment.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son John Conrade, and five brothers.

Edward was born a farmer/rancher and lived his whole life as a farmer/rancher.  He also worked an off the farm job most of his life working for a short time on the railroad, Emporia State Teachers College and the feed mill in Emporia.  His longest career was at Bunge for 32 years.  During the yearly years working at Bunge he also worked at Emporia Livestock on Friday afternoon where his kids enjoyed watching Dad.  Edward genuinely enjoyed his cow herd.  He loved finding newborn calves and also raising baby calves from the feedlots.  Many of these feedlot calves were kept and added to the cowherd including one bull.  Through the years Edward often joked about his $10.00 bull.  Besides being a very hard worker Edward had a wonderful sense of humor two traits he kept till he passed away.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, south of Emporia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening , August 3, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.  The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions to the Meals on Wheels may be sent in care of the funeral home.
