Edwin E. Moran (82) of Olpe died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at his home.

Edwin E. Moran, the son of Edwin W. and Ruth (Emrick) Moran, was born on January 31, 1928 near Hamilton, KS. His family moved to the Olpe Community in 1936, and he resided there until his death. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1946, and served two years in the Army. Shortly after arriving home from his military service in Japan, he married Joann Bently in Emporia on November 5, 1948. They were married for over fifty years until she preceded him in death on November 22, 1998.

Ed was a farmer and stockman throughout his life. One of his greatest passions was raising cattle, which he did successfully for over 60 years. He was also employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for twenty years, most of the time as a car inspector in the Emporia yards. Ed was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by: two sons, Ronald and his wife, Sandra Moran of Clermont, FL, and David and his wife, Rhonda Moran of Osage City, KS; one daughter Mary Beth and her husband Michael Tabares of Emporia; one sister, Myrtle Eisenhauer of Liberal, KS; one brother, Delbert Moran of Emporia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and friend and care giver, Evelyn Conrade of Olpe.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett with Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting military honors. Burial will be in the Line Cemetery southwest of Olpe. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Hand In Hand Hospice, and sent in care of the funeral home.
