Edwin W. Shepherd, Emporia, Kansas, died at Flint Hills Care Center on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the age of 80.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 2:00 P.M., conducted by Allen Wilson, Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church, Emporia.
Edwin was born in Gridley, Kansas on October 17, 1934, the son of Gilbert and Florence (Platt) Shepherd. He married Arlene Dieker in Emporia on July 5, 1955. She survives.
Surviving family members include: his wife of Emporia; sons, Rodney and Kaylen of Emporia and Jeffrey of Reading, Kansas; brothers, Gary, of Pueblo, Colorado, Robert, of Emporia, and Larry, Topeka, Kansas; sisters, Myrna Johnson, Greenwood, Nebraska, Sherry Massey, Amarillo, Texas, and Sandy Vogts, Alabama; ten grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Raymond, Dale, and Ronnie.
During his lifetime, Mr. Shepherd worked as a pawn broker, auto body repairman, and was an expert gunsmith, and at times an inventor. He was a member of the Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict.
A memorial has been established for Alzheimer’s and related disorders research, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
