Elaine White Ek was born April 5, 1931 in Denver, Colorado and passed away peacefully June 17, 2016 at The Regent Park Rehabilitation and Memory Care facility in Wichita.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ek, her parents, Arthur and Helen Jenner White, her brother Arthur and a sister Lora.
She is survived by a brother Robert (Lonna) White of Lenexa, KS, and her three sons Greg (Debby) and John (Brenda) Ek of Wichita and Larry Ek, Emporia, KS. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Andy (McKenzie) Ek, Allison (Nick) Kerr, Evan and Griffin Ek, Wichita and Katie Ek of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Greyson, Landen and Emery Lou Ek and Madelyn and Brody Kerr.
Elaine was born and raised in Denver, CO. She graduated from Denver South High School in Denver. She and her family spent their summers in Palmer Lake, CO, where many fun family memories were made. Elaine attended the College of Emporia for two years where she met her husband Don. They were married for nearly 64 years before he passed away in March of 2014.
Elaine was a past President of Chapter ES PEO Sisterhood, Friends of the Library, Women's City Club and the Emporia Social Service Club. She was a past member of DAR, and Research Study Club, a board member of the Lyon County Historical Society and the Gazette Woman of the Week in December 1971. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church where she was a past member and Chairman of the Deacons and a past member of the Trustees. She loved spending time with her friends playing golf, bridge, Mahjong and especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her many special attributes was befriending, caring for and helping others when in need. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 Wednesday, June 22 at the First Congregational Church and interment in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia, KS immediately following by Roberts-Blue-Barnett and Rev. Andrew McHenry officiating. Memorials may be made to the Emporia Public Library or the Lyon County Historical Museum.
