Elda M. (Stohs) Rolf, Emporia, Kansas, died Friday, October 22, 2010 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. She was 96.
Elda Stohs was born September 30, 1914 at Argonia, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Dill) Stohs. She moved with her family to Aliceville, Kansas in 1919. Elda attended school through the 8th grade at Saint John Lutheran School, Aliceville, Kansas. She was confirmed at Saint John Lutheran Church on May 6, 1928. She married Paul Samuel Rolf on February 1, 1933 at the home of her parents. He died February 28, 1999, after 66 years of marriage. Elda and her husband were blessed with one son, David, who died earlier.
They were farmers in the Aliceville community, and were members of Saint John Lutheran Church, Aliceville. They retired in 1967, and then moved to Emporia. They were active members of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia. Elda was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and Ruth Circle. She volunteered numerous hours at Holiday Resort and enjoyed playing Pinochle in the same club for more than 30 years. Staying in touch with family and friends was important to her.
Elda is survived by a Brother, Martin Stohs, and his wife, Lois, of LeRoy, Kansas; a Sister, Edna Rolf, Burlington, Kansas; a Sister-in-law, Lorna Stohs, Burlington, Kansas; and 47 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband; Son, David; Brothers, John Stohs, Alvin Stohs, and Edgar Stohs; and Sisters, Elsie Ratz, Hilda Rahmeier, and Hulda Ratz.
Funeral services will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, Thursday at 10:30 AM., conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at the Saint John Lutheran Cemetery, Aliceville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia; Saint John Lutheran Church, Aliceville; or Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
