Elizabeth Mae Schroeder

Elizabeth Mae Schroeder, of rural Olpe, Kansas, died at her home Friday Morning, April 20, 2012 at the age of 84.

Elizabeth Mae Kinsey was born at Bazaar, Kansas on June 6, 1927, the daughter of Virgil and Hattie “Pat” (Cooper) Kinsey. She graduated from Matfield Green Rural High School in 1945, and taught at the Atyeo School in rural Lyon County. She married Gilbert Raymond “Gib” Schroeder at the parsonage of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, Kansas, on October 4, 1945. He died at their home on July 26, 2000.

Mrs. Schroeder is survived by three sons, Jon, of Concordia, Missouri, Stanley, of Emporia, and Darren, who is stationed in Afghanistan; four daughters, Dana Dengler, Starre Cole, and Lanne Shayes, all of rural Olpe, and Mona Scoggin, rural Hartford, Kansas; a brother, Vernon Kinsey, rural Olpe; and sisters, Bobbie Hammond, rural Olpe, and Patti Ungeheuer, rural Topeka; seventeen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, W. Scott Schroeder (who died December 30, 1985); a sister, Belnah June Kinsey; a granddaughter, Andrea Joy Schroeder; and a grandson, Dallas Wayne Dengler.

Mrs. Schroeder was a farmwife, helping on the family farm southwest of Olpe.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Verdigris Valley Home Demonstration Unit, Coral Bells Garden Club, Flint Hills Genealogical Society, and the Yahoo group, ChristmastotheMax.

Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2012. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, southwest of Olpe.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.

Memorials have been established with Hand In Hand Hospice or the W.S. and E.C. Jones Breast Care Center at Newman Regional Health. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
