Elizabeth Willard

Elizabeth Ann Willard, 86, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas.

Elizabeth Ann Madison was born the daughter of Roy L. and C. Pearl (Miller) Madison on March 17, 1929 in Emporia, growing up in Virgil, Kansas. She married William “Bill” Willard February 22, 1947 in Emporia. He passed away April 2, 1998.

Early on in her life, she worked at Woolworth’s in Emporia. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Willard’s Daylight Donuts for 26 years before retiring in 1980.

Elizabeth and Bill enjoyed 30 years at Lake Kahola, rebuilding their cabin into a retirement home. When they weren’t at their cabin they enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Texas.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Past President of the AmVets Auxiliary and Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a former member of the Mary Herbert PTA, and she had been a Girl Scout Leader. Elizabeth was especially proud of the fact that she had been a Newman Hospital Auxiliary volunteer for 17 years.

She loved playing cards and was a member of a Thursday afternoon card club, and bowled in the Thursday night mixed league and the Eagles mixed league for many years. Her favorite color was red, and she generally wore red with an angel pin.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Janet Lostutter, Emporia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Elizabeth in death are her husband; parents; son-in-law, John Lostutter; and sister, Margaret Bowman.

Cremation is planned.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Christian Church, Emporia, on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Colerick. Fraternal Order of Eagles service will follow. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.

The family and friends will have the opportunity to visit an hour prior to the service in the church.
