Elma W. Moore, 102 died Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Elma was born August 26, 1915 at her parents’ home in rural Hartford, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frederick John and Lucy Eva (Stanfield) Warnken. She received a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College. She taught in a one room school and resigned to marry, which were the rules of the day. She spent most of her married life as a farm wife. Then in 1967 she began working as the morning serving supervisor for the student cafeteria at KSTC in Emporia until her retirement. Elma grew up in the Quaker church at Twin Mound Friends Church, became a member of the Admire United Methodist Church and the Grace United Methodist Church. Her other memberships include Royal Neighbors, Abigale Circle at Grace United Methodist Church, Twin Mound Ladies Aide Society, North Lyon County Clippers (part of the Lyon County historical society), Lyon County Republican Women, Duck Creek Card Club (40 years), Red Hat Society, tutored Math and English as a second language at Grace United Methodist Church, 4-H leader, and received a certificate from RSVP for the oldest volunteer in Lyon County when she was 100.
Elma married Frank K. Moore on April 26, 1936 in her parents’ home. He died September 16, 1981. She is survived by her daughters Arlene Beach of Topeka, Kansas and Norma Hein (husband Jim) of Valley Center, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Kenneth Leroy Moore, sisters Muriel Wolcott, Alice Millerskow, Esther Morris, brother Frederich J. Warnken and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia, Kansas. Her grandson Mr. Wesley L. Moore of Enid, Oklahoma will be officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Toledo, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
