Elmaleda E McMinn passed away peacefully, on June 15, 2016, in the "Granny Suite" surrounded by family and her caregiver where she resided with Melissa, Patrick and Zack in Wichita, Kansas. She was 86 years young.
Elmaleda Elizabeth Hauser was born in Great Bend, Kansas on July 31, 1929, the daughter of G. O. and Lillian (Klusener) Hauser. She married B. L. D. McMinn in Bisbee, Arizona on January 22, 1944. He died March 22, 2001.
She was the manager of the Sante Fe Credit Union for 8.5 years prior to retiring in 1987. Under Mrs. McMinn's leadership she increased assets and membership by 350% percent and underwent the name change to what is currently known as the Credit Union of Emporia. After retiring she and her husband became “Winter Texans” at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, Texas. She was a longtime active member of the Emporia First Christian Church, President of the Lyon County Museum, Flint Hills Saddle Club, and President of the Residents Council at the Presbyterian Manor. She was involved in the planning of the Lyon County Bicentenial Parade in which she road part of the trail on horseback with family and great friends. She was also involved with the Veteran Day Memorial Mural in downtown Emporia. She was lovingly referred to the "Queen B" and was undoubtledly the matriarch of her family.
Surviving family members include her grandchildren and their families: Melissa (Thomas) Gronau, her husband, Patrick and son Zack of Wichita, Lauren (McMinn) Walker and her children Bailey and Delaney of Navarre, Florida, Kent McMinn, his wife, Jennifer and their children, Jesse and Justin, Niceville, Florida, and Kevin McMinn, his wife, Wynde, and their children, Heather and Hannah, Destin, Florida.
Elmaleda was preceded in death by her husband; son, James McMinn, who died May 26, 2001; and daughter, Jan (McMinn) Hedges, who died August 30, 2015.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jennifer Miller, caregiver, Heather Gaugler, APRN, and Brent Smith, PT who provided excellent care for her at home.
Memorial services for Elmaleda E. McMinn will be held at the First Christian Church, Emporia, Kansas, on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service. Services will be conducted by Rev. Karen Green, Twin Lakes Foursquare Church, Osage City, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia. Cremation has occurred.
A memorial has been established with the Emporia Christian School or the First Christian Church. Contributions may be sent to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801, which is assisting with arrangements.
