Elsie Mae Bohm, 91 of Emporia, Kansas died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Elsie Mae Fidermutz was born January 27, 1926 on a farm near Humboldt, Nebraska. Her parents were Albinia and George Fidermutz. Elsie attended Union Star country school thru the 8th grade and graduated. Then she attended Humboldt High School 4 years and graduated in 1943. That summer she was hired as a telephone operator for the Spisur Telephone Company near Humboldt, Nebraska. The telephone exchange was in her grandmother’s (Josephine Fidermutz) house. In the fall she and her sister Margie attended Lincoln School of Commerce and she graduated the following spring (1944) and worked in Lincoln.

In 1947 Elsie and John Bohm were married January 14 in Marysville, Kansas and as John was in the Air Force in Salina, resided there for about 2 years. Then they moved on the Bohm farm near DuBois, Nebraska and lived there about 10 years. They moved to Emporia, Kansas were Elsie graduated from Flint Hills Vocational School having taken a secretarial business course. Elsie worked 4 years for Home Health Service which closed for lack of funds. She then went to work at Emporia State University in Building Services and was advanced to Supervisor I position in the Library and Liberal Arts buildings. She worked for 16 years at E.S.U.

Elsie was past Worthy Matron twice in the Americus Eastern Star. She was active in Americus Senior Center. Elsie was an avocate of Mental Health and a member of National Mental Health. She was a long time attendee of the Americus United Methodist Church, most recently attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia, a member of the Senior Citizens Club, Red Hat Society and the United Methodist Women.

Elsie is survived by her daughters Margene Crane and husband Ronnie of Americus, Kansas, Barbara Bohm of Burlington, Kansas, grandchildren Rae Lynn Lowder and husband Lee of Allen, Kansas, Leonard Crane and wife Carla of Americus, Kansas, Christina Williams and husband Kristopher of Eudora, Kansas, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Margie Kell.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Mark Stukey of Admire, Kansas will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the funeral home.
