Emil Joseph Schneider, 68, of Emporia, Kansas, died May 9, 2015 at Holiday Resort, Emporia, after a long battle with cancer.
Joe was born on March 9, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Emil John and Lucille Whinery Schneider. He married Jane Buenning January 29, 1972 and they later divorced. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Ruby) Ogle, whom he married on December 20, 1980 in Emporia.
He is also survived by: daughters, Stephanie Beggs and husband John of Independence, Missouri, and Shelby Jones and husband Tim, formerly of Emporia but now residing in Clayton, North Carolina; stepson, Kevin Ogle and wife Tammi of Emporia; mother, Lucille Schneider of Emporia; brother, Boyd Schneider and wife Vickie Jo of Hamilton, Kansas; sisters, Vickie Dickson and husband Bill of Olpe and Linda Barnard of Olpe; grandchildren, Louis Lyon, Abby Jones, Macy Jones, Timothy Jones and wife Elizabeth, Thomas Jones, and Nolan Ogle; great-grandson, Zachary Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 as a Military Police Officer. Joe hauled cattle for many years, and later went to work at the family business, DuMore Chemical in Madison, Kansas. In the early 1990’s Joe returned to driving for IBC/Dolly Madison until the bakery closed in late 2012. Joe was an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling with friends and spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him Jo Jo as did many others. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, American Legion Post #5, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. Interment with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veteran of Foreign Wars will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday evening, May 13, 2015 at the church. Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of the funeral home.
