Ermagene Milliken, 99, of Americus, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas.

Her funeral service will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Americus United Methodist Church. Pastor Nancy Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Americus Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the church may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Ermagene Ames, the daughter of Ace C. and Elvessa Teressa White Ames, was born on June 16, 1916 on the family ranch (Kahola Creek) near Dunlap, Kansas. She married Lester W. Milliken on October 2, 1938 in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1971.

Ermagene graduated from Americus High School and received her teaching certificate from Kansas Normal School (ESU). She taught in a rural school, and later was the sales manager for Haynes Hardware Furniture Department until she retired in 1978.

She was a member of Americus United Methodist Church, Americus Order of the Eastern Star, Research Club, Embroidery Club, and the Pitch Club.

She is survived by a daughter, J. Diane Schafer of Topeka; five grandchildren, Scott McDowell, Keri McDowell, Tammy Demaree, Larry Schafer and Ben Schafer; and six great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Phyllis Marlene McDowell; and six brothers, John L. Ames, Archie L. Ames, Clair W. Ames, Victor B. Ames, Kenneth L.
