Essie R. Scharenberg, 95, of Emporia died on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Essie was born on September 10, 1920 in Haywood, Oklahoma the daughter of Joe H. and Cora D. Martin Windle. She married George C. Scharenberg on August 17, 1949 in Olathe, Kansas. He died on September 20, 2009 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: son, Carl Scharenberg and wife Anna of Emporia; brothers, Fred Windle of Wellsville, Kansas, and Oren Windle and wife Doris of Neosho Rapids, Kansas; sister, Ethel Hodges of Emporia; sister-in-law, Gertrude Scharenberg of Wichita; grandchildren, Carl Leo Scharenberg and wife Rachel Kibler, and Claire Pavlecich and husband Joe; and great-granddaughter, Mara Pavlecich.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother-in-law Kenneth Hodges, and sister-in-law Helen Windle.
Essie worked at the Kress, Woolworth’s and Bellas Hess stores and was a homemaker. Memberships include the Neosho Rapids United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The family will greet friends an hour before service time. Burial following the service will take place at the Chicago Mound Cemetery southeast of Emporia. Memorial contributions to the Neosho Rapids United Methodist Church or the Neosho Rapids City Park can be sent in care of the funeral home.
