Ethel C. Hodges, 95, formerly of Emporia and Olpe, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Legend Healthcare, Tonganoxie, Kansas.
Funeral services will be at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:00 AM. The service will be conducted by Pastor Lucille Barb, Olpe, Kansas. Burial will be in the Chicago Mound Cemetery, South of Emporia. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the funeral home.
Ethel Clyde Windle was born November 27, 1922 in Haywood, Oklahoma the daughter of Joe Homar and Cora (Martin) Windle. Ethel moved with her family to Lyon County in 1926. She married Kenneth Hodges at Emporia, Kansas on June 27, 1940. He died in January of 2004.
Surviving family members include her daughters; Janet (Don) Cummings, Emporia, KS and Doris (Paul) Hund, Leavenworth, KS, her son; Richard (Pam) Hodges, Claremore, OK, brothers; Fred Windle, Olpe, KS and Oren Windle, Neosho Rapids, KS, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A grandson; Daniel Baker, and sister; Essie Scharenberg, died earlier.
She was a secretary in the Emporia area for several years and was retired. She was a member of the Olpe United Methodist Church. As an avid quilter she was a member of the Neosho Rapids United Methodist Women Quilting Group. Together with her husband, Kenneth, they enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home, wintering in Texas for over 20 years.
A memorial has been established in her memory with the Olpe United Methodist Church or the Memorial United Methodist Church in Neosho Rapids. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, KS 66801.
