Evelyn L. Caruthers, 87, of Emporia, Kansas, died on June 27, 2011 at Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.
Evelyn was born on March 1, 1924 in Appleton City, Missouri the daughter of Walter A and Lula Grace (Purvis) Ison. She married Ray Andrew Caruthers on May 18, 1941 in Lamar, Missouri. He died on December 21, 1984 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Survivors include: son, Randy A Caruthers of McPherson, Kansas; daughters, Patricia R. Kreutzer of Arma, Kansas, and Rebecca S. Smith of Emporia, Kansas; grandchildren, Dianna Campbell of Arnold, Maryland, Marvin Williams of Arma, Kansas, Norman Williams of Moore, Oklahoma, Vernon Williams of Benton, Arkansas, Justin Bolton of Henderson, Nevada, Jarron Bolton of Winfield, Kansas, and Amanda Smith of Wichita, Kansas;
Brother, Willard Ison of Iantha, Missouri; and sister, Jeanie Buzzard of Lamar, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Mildred LaGrave, and Wilma Wolfe.
For ten plus years, Evelyn was a nurse’s aide at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro, Kansas. They later moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she was a nurse’s aide at Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Fayetteville American Legion Auxiliary Shelton-Tucker Post #27, and was the department President of American Legion Auxiliary for the State of Arkansas in 1988-1989.
Cremation is planned with the memorial service to be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia. A private inurnment will be at a later date in Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
