Evelyn D. Scheve Rodgers of Olpe passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. She was 76.
Evelyn Dora Hoch, the daughter of Clem A. and Agnes Schneider Hoch was born Feb. 18, 1934 in Madison, Minnesota and grew up in Lacona, Iowa. She married Edward Scheve August 13, 1955 in Bauer, Iowa. He passed away Sept. 2, 1971 in Olpe. She later married Leland “Red” Rodgers on June 22, 1984 in Emporia. He survives of the home.
She is also survived by one daughter, Kathy and husband Clay Braman of Buffalo, KS.; two sons, Steve and wife Janice Scheve of Houston, TX, and Francis and Lisa Scheve of Emporia; one step-son Kevin and wife Deena Rodgers of Emporia; three brothers Kenneth Hoch and Clemmie Hoch both of Lacona, Iowa and Gene Hoch of Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters, Lillian Thill of Pleasantville, Iowa, Luella Nickelson of Indianola, Iowa, Carolyn Wallace of Knoxville, Iowa, and Marilyn Orey of Indianola, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jordan Scheve, Madison Scheve, and Spencer Scheve all of Overland Park, Austin Braman and Kameron Braman of Buffalo, and Gentry Scheve and Alaina Scheve of Emporia. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Walter Hoch, Marvin Hoch, and Dean Hoch; and one sister, Julie Snyder.
Evelyn worked in the Olpe Grocery Store, Emporia State Bank and Eureka Federal Savings retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Flying Needles Group and Altrusa Club.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 PM Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe celebrated by Fr. Tim Haberkorn of St. Joseph Church in Topeka. The Rosary will be recited 7:30 PM Thursday, August 2, 2010 at St Joseph Catholic Church. The family will meet friends at the church from 6 PM until the Rosary on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established to the St. Joseph School in Olpe. Donations can be sent in care of the funeral home.
