Felicitas "Phyllis" Alvarado

Felicitas “Phyllis” Alvarado of Emporia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.  She was 91.

Phyllis was born on May 21, 1932, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Modesto and Juana Rodriguez Tavares.  She married Patricio Alvarado at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Emporia.  He died on January 13, 2010, in Emporia.

Surviving family members includes her sons Edward (Debbie) Alvarado of Topeka, Joseph Alvarado of Emporia, John (Odessa Green) Alvarado, Duane (Kayla) Alvarado of Emporia, and Robert (Kimberly Campbell) Alvarado of Gardner; daughters, Jeanne Livingston of Chapman, Brenda (Darrell) Davis of Del Rio, Texas, and Marie (Chris) Haba of Emporia; twenty one grandchildren, forty three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Anthony “Toppy” (Mary) Tabares of Emporia; sisters, Ernestina Ramirez, Mary (Jim) Harris and Margaret (Bill) Henricks all of Emporia.

She is preceded in death by her husband Patricio, son Patricio “Junior” Alvarado, daughter Patricia Alvarado, daughter-in-law Karoli Alvarado, son-in-law Dennis Livingston, sisters Virginia Lopez, Ramona Aguilar, and Lupe Ryan, brothers, Frank, Ignacio, and John Tabares.

Phyllis was a homemaker for 73 years.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.  She was the center of many lives.  Although she will be greatly missed, she will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia with the visitation following.  Mass of Christian burial will take place the next morning at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia with burial following at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia.  Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O.
