Forest "Sonny" Arnold

June 28, 1935 — July 11, 2013

Forest “Sonny” Arnold, a resident of Hartford, Kansas, died at his home on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the age of 77.


Forest was born in Emporia, Kansas on June 28, 1935, the son of Alex and Cora Fern (Blackburn) Arnold. He married Connie Sue Smith in Newkirk, Oklahoma on February 16, 1973. She died November 4, 1985.


Mr. Arnold was a roofer, working for Groh Roofing Company for 30 years, and retiring from Emporia Roofing Company after 18 years of employment.


He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1952 until 1956, primarily on the troop transport, USS Mountrail. Sonny enjoyed fishing, and could often be found out on a river bank with his longtime friend, Jay.


Surviving family members include his brother, Jerry Arnold, Hartford; sisters, Betty Walker, Halstead, Joyce Rose, Newton, and Norma LeClair, Emporia; and a number of nieces and nephews and their children.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the chapel of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by Pastor Corey Livingston, of the youth ministry of Victory Fellowship Four Square Gospel Church. Interment will be in Chicago Mound Cemetery, southeast of Emporia, with military honors presented by Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, July 17, 2013 from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M.
