Frances Jeanne Groh

Emporia

Frances Jeanne Groh of Emporia, died on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Newman Regional Health.  She was 93.

Jeanne was born on April 3, 1931, in Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Charles and Gertrude Jenner Fearl.  She married Rudy Edward Steinkuhler on January 22, 1950, in Emporia.  He died on February 17, 1971, in Kansas City, Kansas.  She later married David Charles Groh on June 10, 1971, in Emporia.  He died on May 7, 1986, in Topeka.

Surviving family members include her son, Kurt (Shiela) Steinkuhler of Emporia; daughter, Linda Barger of Emporia; grandchildren, Staci (Luke) Bryant and Sara (Adam) Newkirk; great-grandchildren, Andrew Quinn, Norah and Neilly Bryant.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, grandson Ryan Steinkuhler and sisters Helen Shadwick and Grace Majeski

During Jeanne's lifetime she worked at Newman Memorial Hospital, Emporia City Engineering Office, Steinkuhler Beverage Company and George Groh & Sons, Inc.  She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia DAR, Magna Charta Dames of America, Colonial Dames of American, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.  She served on the Emporia Chamber of Commerce Board from 1995 to 1997.  She was honored by the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing 1994 by George Groh and Sons, Inc., being chosen by the Kansas Commerce Department as Women's Owned Construction Business of the year.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Patio Garden at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.  Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
